April.06.2016

On April 1, Okayama University established the "Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Science" and held a ceremony to raise the signboard in front of the entrance of the Faculty of Science. This institute will promote research on quantum cosmology and neutrinos, photosynthesis and structural biology, and superconducting materials and device science in an integrated manner in order to strengthen the research foundation of "physics" and "basic life science," which are the strengths of the university. The Institute aims to promote basic science from the perspective of interdisciplinary exchange that runs from basic physics to basic life science, as well as to promote applied scientific research that will serve as the foundation for solving energy problems and industrial technological innovation, which are the bondage issues of the 21st century.
At the dedication ceremony, President Kiyoshi Morita said, "As an important institution at the core of the 'Research University: Okayama University,' I am very much looking forward to seeing the results of our work in a variety of ways," and Director Yoshihiro Kubozono said emphatically, "I am confident that the Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Science will be able to join the ranks of the world's top research groups in the near future. I am confident that the Institute will be among the top research groups in the world in the near future. About 100 people, including Dr. Hiroshi Abe, Director of Planning and General Affairs, Dr. Shinichi Yamamoto, Director of Research, faculty members and students, also attended the ceremony to celebrate the opening.
